Announcing Education Data Done Right - available now
Dear Colleagues,
I wanted to share some exciting professional news and ask you for your help!
I'm co-author of a new book, out now! I co-authored it with two good friends who also worked as data analysts in education agencies and it is about the parts of the job that aren't covered in a course or in other training materials. We worked hard on this book in our spare moments over the past 18 months to make a resource we each wish we'd had when we started our job. It covers topics like metadata, working with IT, data requests, agency politics, and how to leverage descriptive statistics for change.
The book is a labor of love and we hope that love shows through!
We want to get this book into the hands of as many people who could use it as possible - so we self-published the book to keep the costs low and to be able to offer it as a "pay what you can" ebook. The ebook is available as in PDF, Kindle, and EPUB formats through Leanpub, with a suggested price of $15 at www.leanpub.com/eddatadoneright. You can also get a print version on Amazon for $15.
So here is my ask - if you know any data analysts in education agencies or networks of people working in that field - can you please spread the word about our book? You can forward them this email, post about it on LinkedIn or Twitter (#eddr / @jknowles) or send along a link to the website we set up for the book - which explains all of this and more:
We have been humbled by the response to the book so far - it is so great to hear from people how it is helping them. But without a publisher (it turns out they do something) it is up to us to get the word out on our own. Thank you in advance for anything you can do to help us get the word out.
This is the first of a few exciting announcements I have queued up for the fall. I'd love it if you stayed subscribed to this newsletter to keep updated monthly about all the work at Civilytics - including our upcoming reports on police accountability. But email clutter is real these days, so if you want to unsubscribe you can do so with the link below.
My best,
Jared
